Zatoka is a small village, which is located not far from Odessa (Ukraine). The village itself is located on a spit. Since on one side is the Black Sea, and on the other side is an estuary. The village of Zatoka itself is not very interesting, as it is an ordinary village. But if you drive a little further through the dam, you can see a line of recreation centers. They are located on a spit along the sea. The length of the bases is about 5-7 km. I.e. they can accommodate a lot of people. The only BUT, recreation centers are often Soviet, i.e. conditions are minimal. But of course there are new ones, in which the prices are significantly higher, but there is more service.
Where to live in Zatoka
First, through the search engine you can find a bunch of sites of recreation centers through which you can book a room. Prices start from 50 UAH per person. The average price is 100-150 UAH per person per night. For this, you will be given a room with a refrigerator, a shared shower and toilet. New base hotels can offer the best service, where there will be rooms with air conditioning, refrigerator, hot shower and toilet. In general, there are no problems with housing in Zatoka. If the seats are occupied, just go (eat) further along the road, the last base is called "Dorozhnik" – there are usually places there for sure, since it is located on the outskirts and few people get there. IMPORTANT: It is often impossible to book a room remotely, often for 2-3 days! Here is such a Ukrainian feature, you can book rooms for at least 5 or more days.
Where to eat in Zatoka, restaurants and canteens
There are no problems with food. Recreation centers are usually rented without a kitchen, respectively, you have to eat in canteens and restaurants. Prices there are not super expensive. You can find borscht soup for 10 hryvnia. Recreation centers often offer food, the price is around 100 UAH per day: this is breakfast, lunch, dinner. Choose an institution where there is, it is best by the number of people in it. That is, more popular establishments are usually full. Although this is sometimes not an indicator.
Attractions of Zatoka
In fact it is a sea :-). Well, if it becomes completely boring, then I recommend visiting Belgorod-Dnestrovsky. There is an old fortress where you can climb, and also there brew local beer Yager. Go to Belogorod 40-50 kilometers. From Zatoka there are minibuses.
Personal experience of a trip to Zatoka for 3 days off by car from Kiev
If you choose whether to go by car or by train from Kiev to Zatoka, I would probably choose the train. Because the road by car takes from 6 to 8 hours. From Kiev to Zatoka is about 550 kilometers. Therefore, if you do not plan to travel around Zatoka, it is better to calmly take a train and get to Odessa overnight, and from there from the station to Zatoka. If you go by car, then half a day is lost. But how best is up to you, of course. So, we arrived late at night in Zatoka. We did not book rooms in advance, because for 3 days no one wanted to provide accommodation. On the spot, we found a room for 50 hryvnia per person in 30 minutes. But it wasn't the season, the end of June. In season, finding a room would be more problematic! Yes, even at night. We checked into the recreation center of the Riviera. For 100 UAH we had a room with a window, a common hot shower that worked in the morning and evening, a summer shower and a shared toilet. Here's what the base inside looks like: And here's our room:
Our friends checked into the Ruta recreation center. For the same money, they had roughly the same conditions. And other acquaintances settled in the recreation center of Vestra. Seats cost already 100 UAH per person, the room had a refrigerator and a TV. Shower and toilet are shared. I would recommend settling in a Trembita recreation center. Prices there are the same 100 UAH per person, but in the courtyard there are ostriches :-). And in general, the base is made cool. Renovated and everything is very nice inside.
Sea sun and sand
Near recreation centers, 50-100 meters to the sea. This is what the coast looks like with vacationers:
And this is the view for all 5-7 kilometers. I.e. on the one hand the sea, and on the other side of the recreation center, some even have a sea view :-).
And this is what the road that leads to the last base looks like. Slabs and Sand:
And here's the Road Builder. We also once rested there. Overall it's quiet very and nice. Only everything needs to be restored…
And this is the estuary, which is located at the end (behind the Dorozhnik base):
At night it was raining, as a result, the streets were slightly flooded. And to get into our room you had to walk on the bones in the water:
In general, the rest was not bad. We rode a banana, shopped in the sea, ate fish and drank beer. And all this was done on the weekend + 1 holiday. The sea was really dirty, but it's how lucky, i.e. we went to Zatoka before and the water was clean, and this time something was unlucky. Of course, if you compare Zatoka and Thailand, then… then it's better not to compare :-). But as for a rest for 3 days, Zatoka is quite suitable. Moreover, the budget of our entire trip for two was 1500 hryvnia, taking into account gasoline, housing and everything else.
