Closed fracture of the radius bone with displacement. Personal experience and what not to do in plaster

The article is not on the topic of travel, but it can be useful to those who have broken the radius bone and do not know what to do well with a fracture of the radius bone.

Radius, why it is most often broken

The radius is a thin bone that is located at the edges of the hands, where the bone protrudes. On the left hand on the left, on the right on the right. It is very easy to break it, it is enough to expose your hand unsuccessfully when falling and that's all, you may have a fracture.

How do you know if you have a hand fracture?

In my case, it was visible to the naked eye. The arm became crooked. If the fracture is not displaced, then perhaps the arm will be straight, but believe me, you will feel wild pain and the arm will swell! Visually, if you have a closed fracture, then no bone will stick out of your arm, and you can accurately determine that this is a fracture and not a dislocation on an X-ray.

What to do immediately in case of a fracture

It is important to immediately fix the hand, make a splint and call an ambulance, or ask that you be taken by car to the emergency room. Don't bother adjusting your hand yourself! That is, if there is no professional doctor nearby, you do not need to do anything with the hand, just fix it and go to the doctor, make an X-ray.

Hospital, X-rays and further actions, how to treat a fracture of the radius bone with displacement

Next in the trampoline, the doctor will refer you for an X-ray. If there is a fracture, then you will need to buy a cast, an anesthetic, bandages, a syringe. Next, the doctor will make a reposition of the arm (adjust the bone) and apply a cast. The reposition is done as follows: the doctor pulls his hand on himself, and the nurse fixes the elbow. That's pretty much it. It is advisable to GO TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SOMEONE. Because with one hand it is not even convenient to get money and buy medicines in a pharmacy. After the reposition, on a good basis, you need to take another picture to make sure that the hand was adjusted normally. But you can not take a picture. I'll explain why. A week after the fracture, you need to go to the emergency room again, take another picture, because the arm may not fuse correctly! Therefore, the snapshot is important and if there is a bias, you need to do the reposition again. That is, the plaster is removed, the arm is adjusted, and a new plaster is applied. The price of the reposition is the same as at the first visit to the doctor. Approximately 5-10 c.u. are bandages with painkillers. The process of reposition IS PAINFUL! After reposition, after 3 weeks you need to go again to the doctor, remove the cast. That's pretty much it. Next, I will describe how everything happened in me, a radiation fracture from personal experience.

Radiation fracture with displacement, personal experience

We rested 150 km from Kiev, played football on an asphalt field and unsuccessfully fell on my arm. Wild pain, I look at my arm – and it is crooked. An experienced friend in these matters immediately said that this was a turning point. Then we went to the director of the recreation center, where they put me a splint made of birch branch and torn old pillowcase. Then the tedious wait for the ambulance. Arrival of the ambulance and the road to the Korsun-Shevchenko hospital. It was a weekend evening, the hospital was empty. A friend went with me (thank you very much). Upon arrival, the doctor did not want to do anything for a long time, because she was afraid that we did not have money. We tried in every possible way to say that the money is there and we will pay for their services. A friend even shoved 150 UAH into her pocket to somehow start the process. Next, we waited for a rengenologist. They came from home. Then rengen – 30 UAH. Then they gave a list of what to buy: a plaster bandage, just a bandage, an anesthetic (lidocaine), a syringe. It all cost 80 UAH. Then they made a reposition for me and put a cast on me. I left the doctors another 100 UAH of gratitude (although the service was 2+) and we called a taxi to return to the recreation center. We also bought an anesthetic – Fanigan. Take one tablet after meals 2 times daily.

Kyiv, going to hospital number 7 on Kotelnikov

In Kiev, 3 days later I went to the traumatology department in hospital number 7. I was able to consult with two doctors. I will say right away that at the reception of the traumatologist there is a terrible queue. I stood for 2 hours. And the attitude towards you there is fidgety. Therefore, I recommend either immediately on the table to put 100 UAH for a normal reception or consult another doctor. I was lucky that I first got to another doctor, on the 6th floor, who explained everything normally (what I wrote above is how it should be ideally). At the traumatologist on duty, after 2 hours of waiting, I was sent for an X-ray. After looking at the X-ray – the doctor said everything is OK. Come back in 2 weeks. Although on the right one – a second picture is taken in a week! That you could fix the arm before it came together. After 10 days, I came again. Again on the picture and waul, I have a bias. We need to do a repository. Going to the pharmacy, buying all the same medicines, although in Kiev it cost me 60 UAH. Before the reposition, the doctor immediately told me that I would need to pay. Next, an injection of lidocaine into the arm, 5 minutes of waiting and the arm began to adjust. IT'S VERY PAINFUL! Despite the painkiller. Then a second cast, X-rays (showed that they corrected normally) and solving financial issues. When asked how much money to give, the doctor said that an hour of time was spent on me (he and the nurse), and it is necessary to give how much is not a pity. I gave 100 UAH. although this is very small. How will they remove the cast of ladies as much more, if everything is OK. On the way home, my arm began to hurt terribly! And for the rest of the day, I was drinking pain medication and lying on the couch. Therefore, when repositioning, prepare to lose a day. The withdrawal after the reposition is very painful! After 3 weeks, again to the doctor to remove the cast. Then the rehabilitation process, because the hand a little atrophies in the area of the hand.

What not to do in a cast

In principle, no doctor told me the restrictions. In general, you can do everything, the main thing is not to strain your hand. Well, to wash, you need to wrap the plaster with a bag. The garbage bag and scotch tape are perfect. That is, the plaster can not be wet, otherwise it will get wet.

Tips for fracture

The hand in principle will grow together and so, i.e. even without plaster, but it may not bend as it should. Therefore, consult several doctors! They have different opinions. And choose the good one that you like the most. That good doctor who consulted me but did not adjust his hand, did not even say anything for money. That is, according to the costs, he simply wrote a list of what to buy at the pharmacy for correction. For the consultation, I gave him a couple of chocolates. Although I waited for it for 30 minutes, because good doctors are often very busy. And they come to them from different cities for consultations… Don't break anything! Because even a trifling fracture knocks you out of the rut for at least a month.
